The sheriff of Laclede County, Mo., is cutting the price of a new Concealed Carry Weapons permit from $100 to $65 to encourage more people to arm themselves in public.
Sheriff Wayne Merritt said just the idea of more people carrying concealed weapons should be a deterrent to mass shootings.
“I just think people having CCWs — you don’t know whether they’re armed or not — and you’re a little more reluctant to go in and shoot a place up or rob people,” Merritt said. “I think people have the right, if they want to have a concealed firearm and are law-abiding citizens that they have a right to carry a concealed weapon.”
Merritt said it’s “getting dangerous for the police… (and) the common citizen.”
Merritt is not the only sheriff encouraging citizens to arm themselves in public. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey released a video encouraging anyone legally licensed to carry a firearm to do so.
