A hunter in Minnesota claimed he used only his 5-inch hunting knife to defend himself against a 525-pound bear.

According to USA TODAY, Brandon Johnson was looking for a bear that his friend had wounded several hours earlier.

"We wanted to give it four hours before we went out and looked for it to make sure the animal had expired," said Johnson.

That's when the bear they were searching for attacked him.

Johnson, armed with a 5-inch knife defended himself on three separate occasions from the bear. Eventually the bear stopped attacking after picking Johnson up one last time by the leg and throwing him to the ground.

Following the attack,  Johnson's friends helped him to an ambulance waiting nearby.

The bear was found dead the next day.
