Bretagne and her owner Denise Corliss were members of Texas task Force 1 and 9/11 terror attacks were the first time she was deployed to first look for survivors, then recover those who perished when the two planes flew into the Twin Towers on that horrific day.

The pup was only 2 years old at the time.

Fast forward 14 years, Bretagne is now retired from Texas Task Force 1 but still works, now as a therapy dog and volunteers at elementary schools, KABC reported.

The 16-year-old golden retriever, accompanied by Corliss, had a heroic celebration back in New York City coordinated by Bark Post.

"After hearing Bretagne's story and learning that her 16th birthday was coming up, there was no question in our minds that she deserved a Dog's Best Day for the ages," Laura Hartle wrote on Bark Post's site.

Bretagne had luxury accommodations and a hero's welcome at 1 Hotel Central Park, a private limousine and had the best seat in the house at a Roundabout Theatre Company's show. she even had a Sweet 16 birthday cake and received the Bone to the Dog Park award from Hudson River Park. It is the equivalent of the key to the city for dogs.
