A newsy-looking web post that says Lance Armstrong has died proved to be fake; he’s alive, as he indicated on social media last week.

Latest turn: PolitiFact Texas has rated the death claim Pants on Fire—incorrect and ridiculous.

Also today, Armstrong texted in response to an Austin American-Statesman reporter asking about the report of his demise: “Ha, ha. Yeah, weird.”

Separately, Mark Higgins, Armstrong’s manager, answered an inquiry by email: “I can confirm that he is indeed alive.”

As noted by news organizations including the American-Statesman, a May 12, 2017, video post on the one-time world-class bicyclist's Instagram account shows Armstrong seated behind a car steering wheel and showing, on a phone, the announcement of his death, then smiling and shaking his head back and forth, meaning "naw."

The fake story, posted by fox-news24.com, claims Armstrong has died of stage 4 colon cancer. The news allegedly was announced on Facebook by Armstrong's daughter, Anna; PolitiFact Texas didn't confirm any daughter by that name.
