A horse that somehow became stuck in a septic tank was rescued Tuesday afternoon in Florida, deputies said.

An animal rescue team along with fire department crew and police officers helped get the horse, a 24-year-old mare named Mercy, out of the septic tank in Bunnell. The rescue operation took nearly four hours and was complicated by rainy conditions, according to the report on the Flagler County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

The horse wandered into the owners' yard and its weight broke through the fiberglass cover on the septic tank. The horse fell into the tank and became stuck. Owners Barbara and Harry Jones were grateful to all of the rescuers who helped free their horse.

Mercy was able to stand on her own after the rescue and was munching on grass, according to the sheriff's office.
