According to ABC News, the girl, identified only as Allison, recently heard about the death of Canton Police Department K-9 Jethro, a 3-year-old German shepherd that was fatally shot at the scene of a burglary in January. Allison decided to donate her allowance to buy bulletproof vests for police dogs.

The small donation moved Officer Ryan Davis, who had worked with Jethro since he was a puppy. After he came across the letter – minus the envelope with the return address – he tracked down the girl's family on social media, Mashable reports. He plans to thank her in person soon.
