A fourth-grader from Tampa, Florida, is earning much more than pocket change with her lemonade stand – and for a good cause.
Alyssa De La Sala, 10, raised more than $10,000 in a lemonade sale Saturday to help rebuild her family's home, which was destroyed in a fire two years ago, according to "Good Morning America."
Alyssa, her parents and her 13-year-old brother, who have been living in an apartment since the fire, are trying to raise $70,000 to finish rebuilding the home. They are now facing foreclosure.
"It started a roller coaster of money I had to come up with," said Joe De La Sala, Alyssa's father. "We started scrambling for money."
Alyssa had the idea to raise money by starting a lemonade stand. She reached out to the media to advertise the fundraiser.
The efforts paid off. Saturday's sale was a hit, with some customers offering $100, $500 and even $1,000 for a single cup of lemonade, according to WLS.
"I was totally amazed by the turnout," Joe De La Sala said. "There are a lot of people who are in a lot worse situations, but to see people still come out and support us for what we’re going through – it’s really amazing."
The family also has a GoFundMe page.
