Details of the cooperation former national security adviser Michael Flynn intends to give to special counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and after emerged around noon on Friday as a “statement of the offense” was released.
The document that was filed with the indictment in a Washington D.C. court, lists statements from Flynn as to why he would have met with Russian officials and who may have directed him to do so during the transition between President Barack Obama’s administration and the incoming Donald Trump administration.
In the statement, prosecutors said Flynn spoke with a “senior official” of Trump’s transition team who was at Mar-a-Lago resort in December 2016 to discuss what, if anything, he would say to the then-Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergy Kislyak.
