A Nebraska family that believed that it would never see its 7-year-old dog after she ran away got a surprise phone call 50 days after the dog disappeared.

According to KMTV, Quincy Bell, from Nebraska, received a phone call and voicemail from a person who lived 6 miles from the family's home saying that the caller had found the family's dog, Macy.

Macy had been missing for 50 days after she sneaked out a back door while everyone was at work. The family did not realize that Macy was missing until it returned to the home, at which point the family searched the neighborhood to no avail.

Macy’s owners placed calls to the local Humane Society and posted pictures of Macy on social media on the Lost Pets of Omaha Facebook page.

Bell began to give up hope, fearing that his dog may encounter wolves or try to cross a busy highway.

Then the family received the call on Friday but remained skeptical that the pet had been found.

"Friday I got a call with a voicemail from the person who found my dog and I really thought it was a joke. I did not believe them," Bell told KMTV.

After the caller described the dog, the family drove over to the caller's house and was reunited with Macy, who was found on the side of a busy highway, watching cars drive by.

Macy, who did not look skinny or in bad health, is now home with her family.
