A Boca Raton man's drunken golf cart joy ride cost him more than $180,000 that he was awarded in an unrelated lawsuit, the Miami Herald reported.
A Miami-Dade appeals court on Wednesday threw out the jury’s decision to award Daniel Carpenter $182,429 as part of a car-crash lawsuit that he filed in 2009 because the jury was not wholly informed of Carpenter’s golf cart crash and a scuffle with police that occurred after the car wreck, The Herald reported.
A month after the car crash, Carpenter got drunk at a golf tournament, crashed the golf cart into a car and fought with police officers. The court ruled Wednesday that the injuries over which he sued came from the drunken golf cart crash and police scuffle, rather than the car crash, according to The Herald.
A new trial has been ordered.
