A Washington couple pleaded guilty to prostituting a 15-year-old runaway girl they took in.
Prosecutors said Desmond Wade Jr., 26, and Michkalin Fox, 25, fed the girl about once a week, got her addicted to methamphetamine and convinced her to prostitute herself online after they met her when she ran away from Lacey to Tacoma, prosecutors said, The News Tribune reproted.
“(It was) some of the most inhumane treatment I think one person can do to another person,” Pierce County Superior Court Judge John Hickman said.
Wade got a 12-year-sentence for second-degree human trafficking and first-degree promoting prostitution.
Fox was given a suspended sentence for second-degree promoting prostitution and unlawful harboring of a minor. As long as Fox does not get in trouble with authorities in the next 364 days, she will not have to serve time behind bars.
Fox said she is taking college classes, taking care of the child she has with Wade and would not want her younger sisters involved in prostitution.
“It’s something that will never happen again,” she said.
