A family said its beloved parents died in the most beautiful way possible.
Henry and Jeanette De Lange were married in 1953. They raised five children together and lived a happy life.
Jeanette, 87, suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and was living in a nursing home since 2011. Henry, 86, visited her every day for years.
"Dad visited mom once a day, twice, or maybe three times a day. It was very sweet," their son, Lee De Lange, told KSFY.
Later, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and suffered a few falls. Several weeks ago, he was admitted to the same nursing home, where he shared a room with Jeanette.
On Sunday, July 31, the family got a call from the nursing home, saying they both weren’t doing well.
“Wednesday or Thursday, she had stopped eating. She was dehydrated,” said Lee.
Family members rushed to the nursing home, and doctors told them it didn’t look good for either of them.
Two of their five children sat by their side.
“[The doctor] said, ‘Your dad’s pulse is worse. I wonder if he’ll go first,'” recalled Lee. “About five minutes later, the aide said, ‘I think your mom will go very soon.’ It was 5:05 at that point.”
At 5:10 p.m., Jeanette passed away.
"My brother Keith said to my dad, 'Mom's gone to heaven. You don't have to fight anymore, you can go too if you want.' He was laying in bed. He, for the first time, opened his eyes, looked intently over where mom was. Closed his eyes back down. Laid back down, died about five or 10 minutes after that," Lee told KSFY.
Then, the family noticed something strange about the clock on the wall.
“So I looked at the clock and it said 5:30. That’s odd. I looked at the watch on my wrist, it said 5:55 p.m. It stopped at 5:30, the exact time dad passed away,” Lee said.
The family said it just can’t explain how the clock stopped at what appeared to be the same time Henry DeLange passed away.
“Amazing. A sign from God that was the right time,” said Lee.
