Two women who were kidnapped as teens and held hostage for more than 10 years finally get to take part in a rite of passage most of us take for granted -- they graduate from high school.

Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus put on their caps and gowns and received diplomas, albeit honorary ones, from John Marshall High School, The Plain Dealer reported.

Berry attended the school prior to Ariel Castro kidnapped her when she was 16 in 2003.  It would have been the school DeJesus attended if he did not kidnap her when she was only 14 and in middle school in 2004.

The women, along with a third captive, Michelle Knight, were discovered two years ago.  They had been kept captive for 10 years, chained in a non-descript home in Cleveland.  Berry ended up becoming pregnant and giving birth to a baby girl.

Castro committed suicide shortly after being sentenced to live in prison plus 1,000 years for the crime, USA Today reported.
