3 charged in connection to Silent Sam toppling

There are warrants out for three people in connection to the toppling of the controversial Silent Sam Confederate monument on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus Monday night.

The three people are not affiliated with the university and face charges of misdemeanor riot and misdemeanor defacing of a public monument.

Silent Sam will be reinstalled, as required by state law, within the next 90 days, UNC Board of Governors member Thom Goolsby tweeted Friday.

The university is preparing for another possible rally Saturday, and it could be on campus at McCorkle Place.

The university urged the public not to attend.
