A car erupted into flames last week in a Gaffney, South Carolina, driveway, but it wasn't what caused the fire that has some saying it was a miracle; it was what was left behind.

The car's interior was destroyed.

"When the fire was burning, it was an intense fire," witness Tj Felder told WHNS. "Then it just blew up."

But one item was only damaged.

A Bible, charred but not destroyed, was found sitting on the back seat, WHNS reported.

Gaffney's fire chief said it's not unheard of to find Bibles undamaged after blazes, but he doesn't know why it happens.

"There's so many theories, I don't know if there is an explanation," Chief Jamie Caggiano said. "We all have our own opinion, but as far as facts, we don't know exactly why it happens."

His department has recovered Bibles before from fires.

"Family bibles...A lot of times people want those, and we'll go back in and get them. You'll see them charred around the edges, the cover will be charred, the bottom will be charred, but the contents will still be in good shape," he said.
