A bill introduced to the North Carolina State Legislature would change the scale for determining public school performance grades.
House Bill 145, introduced Thursday, calls for a 15-point scale rather than the existing 10-point scale for grading school performance.
WRAL reported the proposed bill changes the grading scale to mean lower scores mean higher grades, so an A would be 100 to 85 percent, a B 84 to 70 percent, a C 69 to 55 percent, a D 54 to 40 percent and an F would be anything below 39 percent.
WNCN reported that, currently, anything less than 60 percent is a failing mark.
The grading scale would not change the scale used for students, only school performance. If passed, the scale would be in effect starting with the 2019-2020 school year.
