Too much water in North Dakota, Idaho, and Montana means a great deal of the barley, there will germinate too early, making it unusable for brewers.

Mohr says businesses like his have been warned "to expect major price increases for malt." Mohr continued, "there is no panic yet. Everybody has been telling us not to panic.”

Cassidy Marn with the Montana Wheat and Barley Committee told the paper this isn’t a new problem.

"We had big problems back in 2002,” he began. "This seems geographically widespread, and because the harvest is still going on it’s hard to tell how bad it is."

Gawker reports some good news. 2013 was a record year for barley crops. It's believed that will help keep prices down until the beginning of 2015.
