Fire officials in Maryland are issuing a warning after it was determined one of the biggest holiday gifts this year sparked a blaze.

There have been several hoverboard-related fires over the past few weeks.

In Maryland, the device was charging when it burst into flames in a Gaithersburg, Maryland home last month, WRC reported.

The electric scooter was plugged in when it caught fire before rolling into the bed, igniting the bedding, WRC reported.

Fire officials with the Montgomery County Fire Department posted a photo of the toy's remnants on the department's Twitter account.

Montgomery County Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Frazier said to be careful if you’re in the market for a hoverboard, or any electronic device, that was made outside of the U.S. because they are not always regulated.

Frazier said do not leave the devices charging while unattended or overnight.

Recent cases of hoverboards catching fire have been documented in New York and Florida.

Because of the potential danger, several airlines have either banned them in checked and carry-on luggage, WXIN reported.
