A 6-year-old New Jersey boy is recovering in the hospital this morning after being mauled by a wild raccoon.
And a good Samaritan is being praised for coming to the aid of Aryan Gavali, WCBS reported.
Bystander Danny Walls heard the screams of Aryan's mom and came running from a nearby vehicle with a fiberglass painter's pole on his hand.
Walls saw a raccoon on top of the child, biting the boy's face, according to WCBS. He used the pole to beat the raccoon to death.
The child, Aryan Gavali, bloodied after the vicious attack, was taken to a local hospital. He suffered deep cuts to his face but his mother says he is doing well under the circumstances. She thanked Walls for intervening and saving her son from more serious injuries.
The raccoon will be tested for rabies.
