DC 6th graders given assignment of comparing Bush, Hitler

A public school in Northeast Washington, DC, gave their 6th graders the homework assignment of comparing US President George W. Bush with Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

One parent called McKinley Tech Middle School to complain about the assignment and was told it was approved as part of the study of both the Holocaust and the Iraq War.

The assignment was part of a Venn Diagram that compares and contrasts the similarities and differences between the two men.

“Now that we have read about two men of power who abused their power in various ways, we will compare and contrast them and their actions. Please refer to your texts,

'Fighting Hitler — A Holocaust Story' and 'Bush: Iraq War Justified Despite No WMD' to compare and contrast former President George W. Bush and Hitler. We will use this in class tomorrow for an activity!" reads the text at the top of the assignment. (Washington Times)

D.C. Public Schools said in a Wednesday statement that the teacher admitted to poor judgment and will apologize to students.

The statement says the students are currently studying war and peace and "when conflict is warranted." (AP)
