Donald Trump’s election has elicited joy, cautious optimism, and, in some cases, deep concern. We asked Georgians to share their hopes for how he will govern.

I voted for you and I sincerely hope that you do such a wonderful job that all those doubting Thomas’s will vote for you next term.

Dear President Donald J. Trump,
What we have in common: We are both 70 years of age and we are both in Commercial Real Estate. I admire you for the empire you created with your tenacity and savvy business acumen. However, I believe that I have something I wish to communicate to you, if you are willing:
Powerful emotions are always justified. Yet, it is imperative to express ourselves tactfully, without ever causing distress or hurt to others. You are a strong, smart man with very strong emotions, and I implore you to PLEASE keep those strong emotions in check to avoid causing hurt to others personally and professionally and our country as a whole.
You are no longer a private individual; you now belong to the ages as leader of the free world. Think of what not only your legacy will be, but also, how your powerful emotions will affect others.
When you find that your emotions make you want to lash out on “Twitter” and react, PLEASE discuss in private with those advisers you so carefully picked before commenting. PLEASE put a filter on your thoughts and emotions.
I have learned to not make people wrong in my personal and business life, even if they are. If you learn to do the aforementioned, you will not only be a great President, but also, you will be a great PERSON, which is why we are put on this earth: The Golden Rule works!
We are both in the “autumn” of our lives. The ONLY thing we bring with us when we die is our good deeds. When I am upset by a person or situation, I ask myself “How would G-d want me to react and what would G-d do?”
Good manners are more powerful than bad words.
Thanks for listening.
My very best,
Mira D. Bergen

I’M thrilled. I’m so excited that the political class is being replaced by someone who wants to get things done, and the only people nowadays that get things done are business people. Mr. Trump is not looking to make his living from being a member of the governing elite, his focus is on righting this country. Mr. Trump needs to get in there and make “America Great Again” by making sound/tough decisions and letting his actions speak for themselves.

As president, I hope you will keep your word. I am a veteran of World War II, and I thought we were fighting to create peace in this world. But politics got in the way. So please Mr Trump, please heal this nation. I grew up at a time when people say that was the best time to grow up in. I have two children, and I hoping that they can grow in the same climate I had. God bless you and do your best.

First of all, let me say that I didn’t vote for you. However, you will not only be president of the 65 million Americans who voted for you but also of me and the other 68 million Americans who didn’t.
Unlike the business world, that doesn’t mean that I work for you in some fashion but that you actually work for me and every other American citizen. You have said that you want to “Make America Great Again.” If that is truly your desire, I would think Job 1 might be to “Make America Whole Again.”
I am sure you must be uniquely aware of the divisive state of our American republic. In many ways, your campaign seemed to play to the animosity and bitterness of our current state of affairs. However, there is much truth in that old axiom, “United we stand, Divided we fall.” Any student of history will note that America’s best moments came when we were united toward a common goal or against a common enemy and our worst moments when we were fighting amongst ourselves, as we are now.
Even though I didn’t vote for you, Mr Trump, I sincerely hope that you are serious in your intentions to make America great again and perceptive enough to understand that such an effort must begin with making us whole again. Then you would truly be America’s president and not just the Republican president… That would be a effort that I and every other American could get behind and wish you Godspeed.

I am worried that we have elected a president that is not a great role model. He isn’t consistent with his facts. We now live in a society where our leader is a known fabricator, and we have to accept this. He manipulates the media and society at large. Again, not a very good role model. I have decided to avoid the news as much as possible. All that said, I am prayerfully hopeful that he would set his ego aside and be an advocate for the American people, not just his supporters, but all of us. I pray for him often, and I wish him the best. He is piloting the plane now, and we are all passengers.

John F. Kennedy said, “Let us not seek the Republican or the Democrat answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.” I would ask President Donald Trump to keep these words in his thoughts and actions as he becomes the president for all of the American people.

After eight years of Obama, I am excited to get someone in the White House who understands what America is about. Obama, in congruence with the Democrat party of today, rarely sides with rugged individualism or any traditional values whatsoever. Trump hasn’t even stepped into office yet and we’ve already had companies keep or move jobs to the U.S. During his thank-you tour, he sat behind podium that said “Merry Christmas.” The market is soaring and everyone but those who have to benefit from the welfare is optimistic. Trump was our last chance to save America.

I remain hopeful that President Elect Trump will rise above the rhetoric and bombast and arrive at something substantive. As a minister, I remain hopeful that Trump will stop the tide of anti-Christian pushback that seems to be more prevalent over the last few years. Though I am not fully convinced that Trump isn’t using Christians as another “tool in his tool box” to get elected.
As a citizen I remain hopeful that some degree of manufacturing can be restored in America and that we can see an increase of opportunity for all Americans. I also pray that we don’t lose sight of our responsibility on the world stage as a leader and a country with great power and thusly great responsibility to be GREAT not only domestically but abroad.

Donald Trump truly cares about this country, and I along with most of America believe that he was guided by our great creator to save our failing country. I was in my early 20s when Reagan was president, and he was the greatest leader I have seen in my life time. I think Donald Trump will surpass what Reagan accomplished! America needs strong leadership which has been very weak for the last 8 years with Obama! Can’t wait for the transition of the presidency!
