If search engine Bing is correct, there won’t be many surprises in Super Tuesday voting across 11 states.
Businessman Donald Trump will win all of the Republican primaries except Texas, the home state of one of his closest rivals, Sen. Ted Cruz, Bing predicted in a post on its elections blog.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will win all the Democratic primaries with the exception of Vermont, the home state of rival Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Being a search engine, Bing draws much of the data for its predictions from web searches and social media posts, the company said on its blog. Polls and prediction markets are also sources of data.
Using a data model, Bing boasted that it correctly predicted seven out of eight of the party primaries in February. Cruz’s “marginal victory” in Iowa was the lone miss by the company’s prediction model.
In the days leading up to Super Tuesday, Sanders was projected to take home narrow wins Colorado, Massachusetts and Minnesota, but Clinton’s decisive win in South Carolina tilted the states into her corner, Bing said.
For an even closer look at the attention each candidate is getting across the country, Bing created the "Search Wave" feature, which breaks down candidate searches by the state age and gender of the searcher, the company said.
The Bing prediction post ended with a caveat: “Note that Bing predicts the candidates who wins the popular vote in a given state’s primary, or caucus, rather that the candidate the delegates will eventually vote for at the party’s national convention.”
