At least six teenagers have been hospitalized after a shooting Monday at Nome Park near Central High School in Aurora, Colorado, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Five victims initially were transported to hospitals, but a sixth victim, an 18-year-old, self-transported to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Multiple suspects are at large, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Several different weapons were used in the shooting and shots were fired from a vehicle in a drive-by shooting and potentially on foot, police said at the news conference.

The victims’ ages range from 14 to 18, according to police. Central High School is on a secure perimeter, according to police. All of the injuries are considered non-life-threatening, according to reporter Catherine Silver.

Children’s Hospital Colorado confirmed that three patients are stable and have been reunited with their families, according to reporter Blair Miller.

One student is undergoing emergency surgery, police said at a news conference.

The incident did not happen at the high school but just north at Nome Park, according to officials.

A witness said he heard “a lot of gunshots, a lot of kids running” at Nome Park, according to reporter Deborah Takahara.

Another witness, who lives across the street from the park, told Takahara he heard 30 to 50 gunshots.

The shooting happened after an 18-year-old died after being shot about 5 miles away Sunday night, The Associated Press reported.

A shooting also was reported in the parking lot of an Aurora mall on Friday, but police only found several shell casings when they arrived, according to the AP.
