The Woodstock City Council may move ahead on the long-talked-about downtown amphitheater next week.

City manager Jeff Moon told council members Monday night that the apparent low bidder has agreed to “value engineering” cost-cutting measures bringing the cost of the project down from roughly $4.2 million to $3.2 million. The city met with Astra group after bids for the amphitheater came in considerably higher than expected. The cost savings encompass extensive changes to concrete, electrical and HVAC work.

Moon ias asking the council to hold a special called meeting nextweek to approve the low bid and approve a contract.

Amphitheater plans include grass terraced seating for 5,000 - 6,000 people, a bandshell , retaining walls and restrooms. Moon told council members that construction would take nine to ten months and could get underway after the summer concerts concluded next month in order to have the facility ready for the 2016 season.
