Veteran City Schools Decatur staffer Greg Wiseman will take over as interim principal at Renfroe Middle, beginning Feb. 5 through year’s end.

Superintendent David Dude plans to create a committee to head up a permanent principal search. He has already posted the job and hopes to fill the position by this summer.

Johnathan Clark, Renfroe principal for 2½ years, resigned unexpectedly just before Christmas.

Wiseman received a marketing degree from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, spending the first eight years of his professional life in sales and marketing. When he and his wife moved to metro Atlanta in 1992, Wiseman changed course and has subsequently spent his entire 23-year educational career with CSD.

He taught fifth grade at Clairemont Elementary (when it was K-5) for nine years, spent two years as instructional coach at Glennwood, then a 4/5 Academy, and is now in his 12th year as Winnona Park Elementary principal.

“The main thing at Renfroe,” Wiseman said, “is that they have a real strong staff. I’m just there to provide some oversight, maybe make some hiring decisions. Believe me, I’m not going to go over there and reinvent middle school.”

He’ll return next year to Winnona and continue as one that school’s longest-serving principals over its 95-year history. Next year will also be the school’s last as a K-3, transitioning to K-2 in 2019.

Meantime Instructional Coach Ruth Scott will take over as interim Winnona principal.
