Just weeks before graduation, a Washington High School senior is in hot water for reportedly altering school records for fellow students in exchange for money.

The 19-year-old student, who attends Washington High's Senior Academy, has been suspended for seven days after he reportedly used the log-in username and password of his father,  a counselor at the school, to access the student database and alter attendance and class schedule records for at least 18 classmates, Atlanta Public School spokesman Keith Bromery told the AJC on Wednesday. The Learning Academy has 248 students. The unidentified student made the changes between February and April, Bromery said.

"A student at the school reported the situation, and all of the altered records were changed back to accurately reflect the affected students’ true attendance and course assignments," Bromery said.  "It is believed, but not proven, that the changes made to the students’ records were done in exchange for money," he added.  He said the student only had access to attendance and course assignment records, not grades.

The 18 students whose records were altered didn't get off either -- they each were suspended for three days, Bromery said.

He said a tribunal will determine whether there will be additional repercussions for the student. School officials haven’t decided if there will be repercussions for the counselor, he said.
