Victor Hill is trying to come back.

The former Clayton County sheriff has been raising money and campaigning for the 2012 sheriff’s election. Hill filed a notice of candidacy with the Clayton County elections office and has set up a website. The website, which lists current crime statistics and plays an audio clip from “Superman Returns,” urges voters to “bring back the crime fighter.”

Hill, of Riverdale, and his attorney, Shonterria Martin, did not return phone calls or e-mails on Wednesday.

Hill’s term as sheriff was marked by his first day in office in 2005 when he placed snipers on the courthouse roof and fired 27 deputies, who later won $7 million from the county in a wrongful termination suit. He also was criticized for maintaining a tank, making inmates face the wall when he walked by, and giving badges to more than 100 of his friends who were not in law enforcement.

Hill's website, which includes a "fact versus fiction" section, says he had a valid reason for the terminations, the tank was used to fight drug dealers and the jail measures were a safety policy.

Hill filed for bankruptcy the day before leaving office. He lost a bid for the state Senate in 2010.

Sheriff Kem Kimbrough, who defeated Hill in 2008, said Wednesday that he also plans to run for re-election.
