Administrators and staff members of the town of Tyrone were joined by other Fayette County officials Thursday for the groundbreaking of a new town hall.

Located on 3.5 acres on Senoia Road across from Shamrock Park, the new 20,000-square-foot building will replace the current facility up the street that was built in 1979. Mayor Eric Dial said plans for the project began in 2017 with the development of a comprehensive plan based on public input. The new $5 million municipal building will house the town council chamber and administrative offices as well as the police department and the municipal court. Dial said Tyrone expects at least $15 million worth of downtown development investment over the next two years, with more spaces for residents to eat, play and shop.

“This will be the meeting place, the epicenter, for all of that,” he said. Construction will begin within the next few weeks and be completed next summer. Details and updates about the project are at http://tyrone.org/municipalcomplex/.
