Sheila Winder and her granddaugther were in a car when a tree smashed the vehicle Friday morning.

A woman and her 2-year-old granddaughter are unharmed after a tree fell and landed on top of a car with them inside, reports Channel 2 Action News.

The tree damaged several cars parked at an East Point apartment complex early Friday.

Sheila Winder was in the car with her granddaughter about to head to work just before 5 a.m. when the woman heard a crack and then a boom.

“When I look up, I don’t see nothing but trees on all the cars,” Winder said.

In a panic, she said all she could think to do was blow on the horn so someone would come out and help. When a man came out and saw his truck had also been smashed, Winder said the man fell to the ground.

East Point police spokeswoman Renita T. Shelton told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that an officer responded to the Hidden Cove Apartments between Ga. 166 and Connelly Drive about 5:20 a.m.

She said the officer told those at the scene that apartment management would have to deal with the tree because it was on private property.

Winder said Friday morning she had been calling her apartment complex to deal with the tree but hadn’t gotten a response. It’s unclear if she’s heard back.
