A brand hasn't yet been decided for the hotel going up only steps from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but it will likely carry the name of a major, well-known chain.

The brands that have been shortlisted for the former Georgia Dome site include Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Marriott International and InterContinental Hotels Group, according to a recent press release. The hotel will be owned by the The Georgia World Congress Center Authority.

The hotel, which may have 800 rooms and cost about $260 million to build, has been in the works since at least 2013. In late 2015, the Fairmont and InterContinental were reportedly being looked at as brand possibilities.

Frank Poe, GWCCA executive director, said the center is “pleased with our options.” The announcement came after a Board of Governors’ Development Committee meeting.

The future hotel will be adjacent to the center's Building C, and on the site of the Home Depot Backyard. The Backyard will also include a parking garage and 11 acres of greenspace for tailgating, parking and event programming.
