Q: What rationale was used for constructing a roundabout on Indian Shoals Road in rural eastern Gwinnett County, near the Walton County border? I thought they were built at intersections that have heavy traffic. — Hank Cushing, Monroe
A: The traffic circle at Indian Shoals Road and Masters Road was built to help slow traffic on a downhill section of Indian Shoals Road at what will be a new entrance to Harbins Park, Heather Sawyer, a spokeswoman for Gwinnett County, told Q&A on the News in an email. Members of the county's Master Plan Citizen Steering Committee were concerned about the speed of cars on Indian Shoals Road and came up with the idea for the circle during planning for the expansion of the park. "Parks and Recreation staff shared this concern and proposed solution with the Gwinnett Department of Transportation, and the traffic circle was agreed upon," Sawyer wrote. The new section of the park is expected to open in early August, she said.
Q: I remember several years ago that attorney Orly Taitz was fined $20,000 involving a case where she claimed President Barack Obama was not born in the U.S. Did she ever pay the fine? — Leann Arnold, Tucker
A: Taitz, an attorney who lives in California, has paid the fine, she told Q&A on the News. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported in January 2011 that she had raised $13,000 to help pay the fine, leveled in 2009 by federal Judge Clay Land of the Middle District of Georgia.
