Q: We followed the excellent series of articles by Johnny Edwards about the new Georgia state law (Senate Bill 346) that came as a result of falling property values and overvalued county tax assessments. As of Jan. 1, all counties are now required to send out property assessment notices to all property owners, regardless of whether they went up, down or stayed the same. Do you know whether there is a deadline mandated by this law by which all counties must have these notices mailed out to property owners? We live in Rockdale County and have not seen these notices to date.
-- Ron Bouchard, Conyers
A: The law says the annual notice should be mailed no later than July 1. The Rockdale County Board of Assessors began mailing its annual assessment notices Friday. Residents who have not received their notice or who have questions can call the Board of Assessors' office at 770-278-7676 or visit the county website at www.rockdalecounty.org.
Q: Is there a phone number we can call to contact PARKatlanta to report cars parked illegally?
-- David Rogie, Atlanta
A: The number is 866-219-8702, Ext. 2904. PARKatlanta implemented parking zones in September, and on-street parking is enforced according to the parking zone hours and days of enforcement, according to PARKatlanta's website (www.parkatlanta.org). New street signs state what type of parking zone is present, and new parking meter enforcement times also were established based on the zone.
