Dave Fritsch hopes something can be done about some utility poles.

“Within about two miles of my home there are at least three telephone poles that have been struck by vehicles and fractured. Two of these poles are tied off with ropes to added adjacent replacement poles. Multiple contacts to every entity I could think of to get these poles removed have not yielded any results.

Fritsch supplied us a picture and took issue with other utility poles.

“The attached picture was taken in February, 2014. This pole is on Barnes Mill Road between Anderson Walk and Coventry Township Place. Additionally, there are numerous utility poles along Barnes Mill Road which have had their upper portions trimmed off and have had replacements installed adjacent and no longer carry any utilities. Why do these poles remain? They are unsightly and provide motorists running off the road the opportunity to hit two large fixed objects instead of one,” he wrote.

We sent the item to our contacts at Georgia Power to find out information on all the damaged poles and got a quick response.

“Typically, our work is done right away in terms of setting a new pole and fixing/moving the electric wires (since no one likes to be without power). The phone and cable wires, often still operating and less critical to keep in the air, must be moved by their owners before the cut-off stub pole can be removed by its owner. If everything is now removed from those poles, that’s where we’ll have to see who is responsible for the pole itself,” said Georgia Power spokesman John Kraft.

A busy connector road is giving one resident fits.

“I bought a house at Oak Grove and LaVista Road and have lived on LaVista Road since January 2002. In all of that time the road has never been repaved,” wrote Jay Polak.

Polak said he had contacted the DOT and was told paving should be completed by November.

“Needless to say when nothing had been done several weeks ago I contacted the DOT again to find the bid was never sent out. Since I have nowhere else to go, maybe you can get this road fixed,” he added.

We sent the information to DOT and will keep you updated on the issue.

Beth Schumaker wants something done about some dangerous tree limbs.

“On Briarcliff Road from Clairmont going north to Briarlake Road, there are a large number of overgrown tree limbs that curve over the road and rest on power lines as well as just lean very precariously over the road. This situation is very dangerous for a number of reasons,” she said.

Schumaker added the entire area needs to have these overhanging limbs trimmed back.

They are accidents waiting to happen, whether by downing the power lines and/or falling on a car.

“I have emailed this information multiple times to DeKalb County Roads Department as well as calling in numerous times and speaking to them about it and the danger.

That was months ago and nothing has been done,” she added.

We sent her information to DeKalb County and will let you know the outcome.
