The Suwanee City Council recently approved a special use permit to allow livestock at 181 Abbey Hill Road. The 2.88-acre property in question is already zoned for livestock but requires the property to be at least 4 acres. The homeowner, Babak Mostaghimi, is seeking the exception to allow for construction of a 34.5-square-foot chicken coop and 102-square-foot outdoor pen to raise up to 8 hens considered family pets.

The city approved the request with several conditions including a maximum of 8 hens will be allowed and no roosters are permitted on the property. The henhouse and pen must be at least 500 feet from any property line and at least 100 feet from any adjacent property’s principal dwelling.
