Piedmont Road in northeast Atlanta was shut down Thursday while authorities investigated a suspicious package.

The incident was one of two involving suspicious packages being worked by Atlanta police early Thursday afternoon.

Police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Piedmont Road was closed at Darlington Road, and that a nearby apartment complex was being evacuated.

According to police dispatchers, an unattended black bag was reported just before noon.

In the second incident, police and fire crews were investigating a jar filled with a suspicious powder that was found in the 200 block of Centennial Olympic Park Drive just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

There were no evacuations or road closures reported in that incident.
