Chastain Park draws some big names to Atlanta but it was two smaller-than-expected visitors who captured the attention of nearby neighborhoods late Friday.

The "neigh"bors in question: two Shetland ponies that had apparently escaped from their corral wandering, politely, along Conway Drive. The first residents to spot them called for Fulton County Animal Control, but Jim Dunlap said his wife, Leigh, devised her own solution to keep the animals from wandering into traffic.

"She wooed them to her and hooked them up to a dog leash to walk them into our backyard," said Dunlap, an attorney.

The gentle animals were clearly pets. They posed for photos and were content to let the Dunlap's Weimaraner, Bo, bark until he tired himself out.

The animals spent the night in the Dunlap's fenced-in yard while Leigh Dunlap posted their photos on the website run by the local civic group, the Mt. Paran-Northside Citizens Association. The headline read, "Found: Two Shetland ponies. (REALLY)."

The animals' caretaker spotted the ad and picked up the animals Saturday morning, Jim Dunlap said. Neither he nor the owner, who lives in the area, could be reached for comment.

"It was quite a shock to see little ponies wandering around," Jim Dunlap said. "They were very pleasant visitors. They didn't seem alarmed at all."
