Summer hours took effect this week for the parks at Lake Lanier, with facilities open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced.
Parks to open for the summer season include Lanier, Lower Pool East, Upper Overlook and Burton Mill (beach side), the Army Corps said in a Facebook posting. Due to high water damage, Buford Dam and West Bank parks remain closed; opening dates are not yet available. Parks around the dam will be locked at night, and any cars left after 10 p.m. will be towed.
“Please note that while the parks are open, certain sections of the parks will remain closed,” the Army Corps said. “All beaches are closed for the time being until our cleaning crews can take care of them.”
The Bald Ridge, Old Federal and Van Pugh South campgrounds will not open until May 1, also due to high water damage, officials said. The other three campgrounds are opening on schedule.
