A student brought an unloaded gun to Decatur High School on Friday, according to a note from the school principal sent to parents.

Principal Lauri McKain-Fernandez learned from another administrator around 10 a.m. about the weapon, according to her note. She and a school resource officer went to the student's classroom and found the weapon.

"We have worked on investigating throughout the day and do not have any reason to believe that any of our students were in direct danger," McKain-Fernandez wrote.

The student, whose name is not being released, was arrested and taken into custody, according to Decatur police Capt. Scott Richards.
