U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland lost power at about 9 a.m. in his home in Grantville, Coweta County. The Republican’s house was packed with his wife, two daughters, one daughter-in-law and seven grandchildren.

They built a fire and Westmoreland had stocked up on food they could make on the grill. A small generator was keeping the fridge going. Westmoreland barely escaped Washington before the storm hit, as flight cancellations forced him to get a late flight out of Baltimore on Tuesday after the House wrapped up business early for the week.

“The grandkids are riding around on my scooter inside here, playing some games,” Westmoreland said Wednesday afternoon. “One just knocked his brains out on the fireplace, but otherwise we’re doing fine.”

U.S. Rep. John Barrow, D-Augusta, also reported that he lost power, via Twitter.
