The teenage rite of passage that is a good freakout before an SAT exam? It’s a thing of beauty.

But it appears this year to have been an above-average performance by a majority of the students in Cobb County. Most of those who took it go to a school where the average is higher than the statewide average.

Data from The Georgia Department of Education released Thursday shows that 5,720 students in Cobb took the SAT.

The Cobb County School District average for 544 on the math section and 563 on the reading and writing section, that makes for a total of 1107 out of a maximum 1600.

The statewide public school average was 1054, and Georgia's average was 1064.

“Seeing our student SAT scores rise year after year reflects the hard work of our teachers and staff as they prepare students for the next step in their educational journey,” said Superintendent Chris Ragsdale in a news release.

Last year, Cobb's average score was 1088.

For Marietta High students, their average score this year was 1072, up from 1057 last year.
