Three metro Atlanta schools are among eight recently named to a state farm-to-school program that encourages districts to consume food that originates in Georgia.
“Georgia Grown Feed My School for a Week” has enrolled A.L. Burruss Elementary, a city of Marietta public school; C.J. Hicks Elementary in Conyers in the Rockdale County school district; and Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, the first private school in the program.
They are among 27 schools statewide now participating in the state Department of Agriculture program. The goal is to have Georgia food products account for at least 80 percent of a school menu for one week of the school year.
“Feed My School” is part of the “20/20 Vision for School Nutrition in Georgia” effort, which seeks to have at least 20 percent of every meal served daily in Georgia public schools to consist of Georgia products by the start of the 2020 school year.
