A $1,607,429 purchase of reading materials was approved by the Henry County Board of Education at its Feb. 11 regular meeting. The purchase of K-5 Guided Reading Text Sets consist of just over 1,000 titles and six copies of each one, to be utilized by all elementary grade levels, as well as various professional learning tools for teachers. The purchase “will ensure that each elementary classroom has high interest/high quality book titles to encourage students to be independent readers,” according to district officials. Funding for the project comes from the district’s special-purpose local option sales tax.
