Fayette County’s high school students performed at or above the state and national average on the 2018 SAT college entrance exam, according to results released by the College Board.
The average for the entire county was 1142, compared to a state average of 1054 and a national average of 1049 (out of 1600 possible points), putting Fayette in the top 22 percent in Georgia. The mean score at McIntosh High School was 1210; Starr’s Mill, 1172; Whitewater, 1134; Sandy Creek, 1091; and Fayette County High at 1053. Starr’s Mill saw the highest increase with a 30-point jump over last year; scores at Whitewater rose 18 points, and those at Fayette County, Sandy Creek and McIntosh rising by 14, 11 and eight points, respectively.
Fayette students had the second highest mean score in metro Atlanta among school systems with more than 1,000 test takers.
