The city of Sandy Springs is one of seven local governments honored recently by the Atlanta Regional Commission for leadership in sustainable use of resources policies.

Sandy Springs was hailed as a Bronze Certified Green Community at the ARC’s January board meeting. Among actions that led to the designation were: conducting energy audits resulting in more energy-efficient lighting, building a propane auto gas fueling station and initiating development of a citywide pedestrian, bike and trail plan in the fall of 2013.

The commission started the Green Communities program several years ago to foster environmental stewardship.
