Roswell city officials are proposing keeping the city’s property tax rate for FY 2017 level at 5.455 mills — said to be among the lowest in metro Atlanta — and plan three public hearings on the matter.

The proposed rate represents $1 of tax assessment per $1,000 of assessed property value. City officials estimate that property values will increase just under 1 percent, but said the actual change won’t be available until the city gets the Fulton County property tax digest in July.

City officials said final figures may result in an increase in property tax revenue. A staffer also told City Council members Monday night that other tax collections may show an uptick as well.

The public hearings on the proposed millage rate are set for 7 p.m. May 9, 6:30 p.m. May 16 and 7 p.m. May 23. All of the hearings are set for the council chambers at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St.
