The Roswell City Council has awarded a $200,000 contract to have the Pond & Co. engineering consulting firm prepare a bicycle and pedestrian master plan for the city.
The League of American Bicyclists has designated Roswell a “Bicycle Friendly Community” at the Bronze Level, and a master plan that shows where the city can improve its policies and practices toward cycling is needed to raise that designation to the Silver Level, according to a staff report to the council.
The study also can be used to improve the sidewalk matrix, the tool used to prioritize sidewalk projects, and help implement the Roswell Loop plan by recommending multi-use trails and sidewalks, staff said. The effort will take 12 months and entail a public involvement campaign with community meetings and surveys.
Mayor Lori Henry told the council meeting, “We’re going to need a lot of public input in the next year, and I would encourage you all not only to give your thoughts, but encourage your neighbors to give their thoughts as well.”
