The Roswell City Council has advanced a project that would create the city’s first “mini roundabout” at the intersection of North Coleman Road and Lake Crest Drive.

The council approved spending up to $43,000 on blanket right-of-way acquisition services and acceptance of right-of-way options. The measure was approved 4-1, with Council Member Marcelo Zapata opposed.

Five parcels would be impacted, and construction plans currently show the city acquiring 1,365 square feet of right-of-way and 4,115 square feet of easements, staff said in a report to the council.

The project “will be effective in mitigating many of the traffic issues cited by area residents and would provide an opportunity to develop a golf cart/personal transportation vehicle (PTV) crossing to Canton Street,” something residents have requested multiple times in the last two years, staff said.

Construction is expected to begin next spring. If the mini-roundabout is successful, it could be a model for low-cost intersection improvements on other lower-volume streets, staff said.
