The Roswell City Council has authorized a $375,000 increase in its contract with CMES Inc. to build the Hardscrabble Green Loop, a multi-use path along Hardscrabble Road connecting Roswell High School and Sweet Apple Elementary School.

The original construction contract, approved in August 2017, was for $5.8 million, but unforeseen site conditions and underestimated materials led to increased costs, staff said in a report to the council – $124,893 to relocate Fulton County water lines, and $100,000 for the multi-use trail and $150,106 for paving materials.

Fulton has authorized reimbursement for the water line improvements, staff said. The remaining $250,106 needed to complete the project will be funded from the city’s Capital Projects fund and available 2018 Local Maintenance Improvement Grant funds from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The project consists of a 10-foot-wide multi-use path, four-foot bicycle lanes and a five-foot sidewalk along Hardscrabble; and a roundabout and other improvements at Chaffin Road.
