The Canoe Launch at Rogers Bridge Park in Duluth was built in 2013. However, excessive water releases from the Buford Dam from December 2015 to March 2016 have caused stability problems with the launch.

The Duluth Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is recommending the use of SPLOST funds for a feasibility study to determine the best course of repair and modification of the launch to withstand increased dam releases. Funds will also be used to prepare construction drawings based on the outcome of the evaluation.

The Parks and Recreation staff is already taking necessary steps to provide a temporary repair during tubing season with the anticipated permanent repair to occur this fall.

The Rogers Bridge Canoe Launch is near the 337 mile marker along the Chattahoochee River. This put-in/take-out point is for hand-launched watercraft only including kayaks, canoes and rafts.

The Duluth City Council will consider allocation of funds for the project at the May 9 council meeting.
