Rockdale County voters did not pass the $140 million Judicial and Government Complex referendum that was on the ballot May 22. The Board of Commissioners will now move the project forward using a different approach, according to a press release.
A diverse group of citizens and members of the business community will be chosen to serve on a committee. The committee will be asked to develop a recommendation on the future of the project to include community input. Items that they will be asked to address in their recommendation will be location, cost, consolidation of government and judicial functions as well as the need for a parking deck and green space.
This recommendation will be considered by the board in 2019.
The group will begin meeting in July. They will be provided with all of the information that the county team has compiled on the complex and asked to come back with their recommendation within six months.
